Third Choice
The popular notion on Almere is not positive. People associate it with criminality, youth hanging around doing nothing and a lot of ugliness. The Netherlands is a country with a rich history, therefore with a lot of old architecture. Rotterdam and Almere are one of the few cities in the Netherlands that is primarily made up of brand new landscapes. All in all, people do not feel warm and fuzzy about Almere. That’s why some people say that the best thing about Almere is the train leaving it. This is the Central Station of Almere.

Artificial greenery
Third Choice
The notion about Almere is that everything is new. People expect very little nature. But to have all the greenery in pots like this and not even have trees is a little disturbing.

Almere is famous for its architectural designs. Many buildings have creative elements to them. Even looking up the sky presents interesting elements. In this picture you see a restaurant sticking out of one of the buildings looking over the city centre of Almere.

Original vision
Almere is a planned city, erected in a short period of time, according to the ‘needs’ of the people. Somehow this makes me think about flexibility. Something you see in some of its architecture. Crooked, bent and curved, sometimes with strange pieces sticking out. It seems that the sky was the limit, architecturally speaking. In this picture you see a curved building interacting with the man, who in this picture is coincidentally bowing over in a similar way as to the building.

Original vision:
Almere was built from 1975 on. Due to the ever-expanding city of Amsterdam and their need for space and affordable living they started to build a new and modern city. And that it certainly is. It could be easily used as a decor for a science-fiction movie, because the city design is made of very sharp designs. Everywhere you look in the city center you have different lines crossing each other and resulting in a quite photogenic city. This picture shows how these lines interact into each other creating a harmonic feel.
